SDAPA Awards
The South Dakota Academy of Physician Assistants presents two awards that honor dedication and achievement.
South Dakota Physician Assistant of the Year Award

2011 Physician Assistant of the Year
Susan Morris
At the fall conference in Sioux Falls, Susan Morris PA-C was awarded the Physician Assistant of Year by the South Dakota Academy of Physician Assistants. Nancy Trimble PA-C presented the award to Susan on behalf of her nominators, Kathy Helmer and Robert Vosler MD. Both Ms. Helmer and Dr. Vosler cited her vast academic and clinical strengths. Further, Susan is always continuing to improve her knowledge base and her performance, and she extremely conscientious. Dr. Vosler also noted that her ethics and her motives in the practice of adult primary care and emergency care are unquestionable.
Susan was born and raised in Pierre, SD. She obtained her LPN certificate in 1979, and received her associate degree in nursing in 1982 from The University of South Dakota. She received a dual certification as a Physician Assistant and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner in 1992 from UND. In 2005, she received her bachelor of science degree in Nursing from SDSU, followed by her master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2006. She has worked in several settings as a physician assistant, including primary care, internal medicine, and emergency medicine.
Susan has been an active member of the SDAPA, serving in roles such as the Continuing Education Committee, director at large, public relations committee, and vice president. She has also served as a representative to the Capitol Constituent Workshop in Washington DC.
Susan and her husband, Bob, reside in Belle Fourche where she is a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and enjoys golf as her favorite past time.

Supervising Physician Award of the Year
SDAPA has now created an award honoring a Supervising Physician in South Dakota. This yearly award recognizes one South Dakota Physician, nominated by South Dakota PA's, who works with and currently practices medicine in South Dakota.
