RE: PA Practice Act (HB1028) headed for Governor's Desk
The efforts of the SD Academy of Physician Assistants to update the SD Practice Act are paying off! HB1028 is on its way to the Governor's office for signature, having passed both the House and Senate with unanimous votes of support.
This is a remarkable victory for such a significant piece of legislation and a tribute to the work of the SDAPA and its work with the SD Board of Medical & Osteopathic Examiners and other health organizations during the last year. During his presentation of the legislation to the Senate today, Senator Ed Olson remarked that in his years as a lawmaker, he had not seen such a well-drafted update to a practice act and encouraged other health care groups to take note.
Please extend a note of thanks to your SDAPA colleagues who have worked so hard during the past few years to bring about our success. These votes don't happen without a lot of preparation in advance and the grassroots outreach of our members to their lawmakers during the session.
Also, please extend your thanks to both House and Senate members in your district for their support for HB1028 and supporting efforts to make health care accessible to all South Dakotans.
